Thermo Extends its NIR Offering with Unique Blend and Process Control Analyzers

22 May 2006

Thermo Electron Corporation announces four new additions to its award-winning portfolio of Antaris™ near-infrared (NIR) analyzers.

The new Antaris Target Blend Analyzer is the most reliable and fit-for-purpose solution available for the real time analysis of pharmaceutical blending processes. The innovative Antaris II is a reliable analyzer for making timely measurements at production point-of-use, or in real-time processes. Finally, the Antaris MX and EX FT-NIR analyzers have been specifically designed to extend the Antaris offering into process control applications. These fully integrated analyzers provide true simultaneous multi-point measurements, a first in near infrared process control.

Thermo’s new Antaris analyzers benefit from a common software, qualification and data platform design. Utilizing MEMS technology, the landmark Antaris Target achieves best-of-class performance, repeatability and reliability providing the potential to improve consistency and yields in pharmaceutical tablet manufacturing lines through real time measurement, eliminating the need for thieving and laboratory testing. Extremely user-friendly, the one-piece design of the Antaris Target allows it to be easily moved from blender to blender and used on any size pharmaceutical blender bin, from laboratory scale to production scale.

The newly designed Antaris II is capable of performing true simultaneous reflection and transmission analysis of tablets via a patent-pending detection system. LIMS, barcode and RFID compatibility allow integration with inventory management systems and minimize the risk of operator data error or paper handling inefficiencies. High-speed USB communications and an integrated panel PC computing option are also among the system’s unique features.

The Antaris MX and EX are the first high performance FT-NIR analyzers to be offered in complete, integrated process packages ready for application. The MX is optimized for raw material and mobile trigger probe operation requiring only minimal training and minimizing possibility for error. Designed for unmanned process control, the EX is optimized for online analytics-based control of processes such as drying, batch reactions and fermentation. The Antaris EX is the only FT-NIR process analyzer to come complete with specialty fiber optic probes, integrated analog and digital I/O, hazardous environment readiness and certification, and method transfer from lab development.
