Thermo Fisher Scientific ALPS 50V heat sealer offers sample security in low to medium sample throughput applications

1 Nov 2007

With improved design, the Thermo Scientific ALPS 50V makes fast and consistent heat sealing accessible for low to medium sample throughput applications. Heat sealing offers a superior seal when used with raised rim well design plates, creating an integral seal that will ensure full sample safety in a wide range of environments.

The ALPS 50V has improved sealing parameters by allowing variable time and temperature settings. A working temperature range of 125-200oC, with 1oC increments, allows optimal sealing temperatures to be reached. Utilizing the optimised temperature for each seal ensures that samples are protected for use in downstream applications. The end of each sealing cycle is marked with an audible notification. This helps to eliminate under- or over-sealing of the plate, thus avoiding any variability in sample protection. Traditional manual heat sealers cannot control this variability (which is normally caused by operator inconsistency).

The counter lever sealing action is an improved ergonomic design that generates consistent and even pressure across the entire plate. This new design ensures even sealing across the plate, so that samples are not compromised. Operator strain is also reduced, as unnecessary force for sealing the plate is no longer required. ALPS 50V is stable on the bench and is CE-marked.

“The ALPS 50V is compatible with all Thermo Scientific ABgene® PCR and storage plates”, commented Melanie Yanek, product manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, Epsom, UK. “As our extensive range of seals for applications from PCR to long-term storage in vapour phase liquid nitrogen, are compatible with the ALPS 50V, scientists can realize the benefits of using just one machine for all of their application-specific needs and obtain improved sealing consistency at an affordable price”.
