Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced two new pH electrode lines, the Thermo Scientific Orion ROSS Ultra® triodes™; and Thermo Scientific Orion Green electrodes. These new, environmentally friendly electrodes offer high performance, ease of use and durability. The new electrodes will be showcased at the Thermo Scientific booth 1741 at PITTCON 2008, being held March 3 – 6 in New Orleans.

The Orion ROSS Ultra triode combines the quality, accuracy and stability for which Orion ROSS pH electrodes are known, with the convenience of a triode. Users can quickly and accurately perform pH and temperature measurements using a single 12 mm electrode.

Orion ROSS Ultra triodes are double-junction electrodes that contain no silver or mercury. Eliminating silver means that users can now effectively measure TRIS buffers or proteins, while the absence of mercury eliminates disposal problems. The refillable epoxy body electrodes are available with three different cable terminations, making them compatible with the most popular Orion meters: the Star, A and logR™ series. The Orion ROSS Ultra triodes, which can measure in the 0-14 pH range at temperatures from 0-100o C, carry a 24-month warranty, the longest for any pH electrode on the market today.

The Orion Green electrode is the first lab or field pH electrode that meets all Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) requirements without any exemptions. The green electrodes contain no mercury, lead or other substances banned by RoHS, allowing for easy disposal. Orion Green electrodes are available in either refillable or low-maintenance models, each of which is also available as a single- or double-junction pH electrode. The double-junction electrodes are compatible with TRIS buffers, proteins or sulfides.

Finally, all Orion Green electrodes are available with a waterproof BNC connector, making them impervious to water when used with an Orion Star series meter. This also ensures the meter is compatible with any meter that has a standard BNC input.
