Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, extends the capability of its ARL 4460 optical emission spectrometry (OES) metals analyzer with the addition of the new analytical software, OXSAS. Developed for primary metals producers, the Thermo Scientific ARL 4460 allows users, from routine use to metals research, to maximize productivity and produce metallurgical products of the highest quality.

Featuring time resolved spectroscopy (TRS) and the unique patented current controlled source (CCS) technique, the ARL 4460 metals analyzer offers unmatched performance, accuracy, stability, reliability and speed of analysis. With the newly integrated Thermo Scientific OXSAS analytical software, the comprehensive solution provides increased analytical capacity and flexibility across a wide range of metals analyses.

Designed to meet the specific needs of users in the metals industry, OXSAS provides simple one-click routine analysis launch as well as access to recent analyses for on-screen comparison and full traceability. The OXSAS software allows users to run a variety of analyses, including the development of new analytical methods and calibrations and rapid high-quality routine analyses. This easy-to-use comprehensive solution features a new 32-bit software platform, a simple graphic user interface and a triple navigation style including grids and tree views.

This innovative software platform enables users to perform method definition from a periodic table, fast calibration using MVR with multiple analyte curve display, repetitive batch sample analysis, multi-purpose analysis display with wide ranging optional data and comprehensive post-treatment of results. The results are displayed in a result database viewer with advanced query filters and comprehensive post-processing functions, including statistics and can be easily exported into Microsoft Excel.

The ARL 4460 solution also features the on-line Spark-DAT option, which fully integrates into OXSAS. This enables cleanness statements and inclusion determinations to be performed in seconds during metals production, compared with traditional techniques which can take hours.

In addition, the ARL 4460 can be coupled to the Thermo Scientific ARL SMS-2000 automation system for fully automated sample preparation, sample handling and analysis. This integrated system is one of the best performing, cost-effective complete solutions available on the market for metals analysis.
