Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Microplate Mover Swap Out Program

30 May 2013

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has announced the introduction of its new Swap Out Program for the Thermo Scientific™ Orbitor® RS microplate mover, to maximize up-time in automated workflows.

One of the main advantages of laboratory automation is increased productivity. The Orbitor RS achieves this with rapid and flexible plate handling, allowing loading of multiple stacked or high-density instruments within a compact footprint. Supporting the robust and reliable technology of the Orbitor RS, the Thermo Scientific Swap Out Program guarantees quick and efficient instrument replacement in the unlikely event that performance drops. This unique approach ensures researchers can rely on benefiting from the full potential of automation. In contrast, systems sourced from alternative vendors could be sat idle and unproductive for perhaps days or even weeks, during the often lengthy process of diagnosis, repair or replacement.

With the Swap Out Program, a replacement Orbitor RS instrument is dispatched within just 24 hours of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Support Department logging the service call. Technicians will then promptly co-ordinate a site visit for swap-out, and ensure the complete system is up-and-running in the following four hours.

Unlike alternative automated systems, data is now stored on the accompanying computer, instead of on memory boards within the Orbitor RS itself. This development is what makes the Swap Out Program possible, as externally stored data prevents loss during instrument replacement and eliminates the need to reprogram a new machine. With the Thermo Scientific Orbitor RS Swap Out Program, laboratories relying upon automated systems can now experience full confidence in continued productivity.
