Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches New DXR SmartRaman Spectrometer at PITTCON 2008, Introducing the Power of Raman for Quality Control Applications
3 Mar 2008Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today unveiled its new Thermo Scientific DXR SmartRaman spectrometer. This is the first Raman analyzer designed specifically for the needs and environment of the quality control (QC) laboratory. The DXR SmartRaman spectrometer will enable many QC labs to harness the power of the Raman technique for the first time. The DXR SmartRaman spectrometer will be exhibited at the Thermo Scientific booth 1741 at PITTCON 2008, being held March 3–6 in New Orleans.
The DXR SmartRaman opens the door to highly reproducible, high-specificity characterization of materials directly through glass and plastic packaging, which saves time, avoids sample contamination risks and reduces error. The system includes a revolutionary new laser power regulator, which adds a new dimension to the reproducibility of results for Raman. Able to be fully validated with patented auto-alignment and rapid auto-calibration features, the new dispersive Raman spectrometer allows users to easily maintain peak performance, while providing them with high confidence in their results.
The DXR SmartRaman greatly simplifies Raman spectroscopy. The system is configured with SMART® accessories and components that automatically identify themselves to the system. This permits automatic configuration and optimization of the system with each accessory and provides serial numbers of accessories and components for inclusion in data records to support the validation process without any burden on the operator. The system also includes a method development toolset to allow method developers to set up complex analytical methods that operators can execute with a single touch of a button.
The DXR SmartRaman spectrometer provides an excellent means of verifying material ID and composition, and it can even distinguish between polymorphs. It is applicable to organic and covalently bonded inorganic materials. It offers fast results and can accept samples in a wide variety of forms (e.g., bottles, vials, capillary tubes, NMR tubes, tablets, blister packs, films, well-plates), making it an excellent choice as a sole analytical technique or as a secondary technique to support a primary technique for analyses that are heavily scrutinized.
“The Thermo Scientific DXR SmartRaman spectrometer is completely unique,” said Dr. Ian Jardine, vice president of global research and development for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The new level of reproducibility that can be achieved with the DXR SmartRaman and the simplicity of operation allows just about anyone to use it. This significant development is likely to revolutionize the use of the Raman technique for quality control and screening applications.”
In addition to the DXR SmartRaman spectrometer, Thermo Fisher Scientific today also launched the new DXR Raman microscope at PITTCON 2008. It is an easy-to-use, fully integrated system offering excellent spatial resolution, superior performance and the same walk-up simplicity as the DXR SmartRaman spectrometer.
