Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced the availability of the Thermo Scientific Pierce Direct Immunoprecipitation (IP) Kit. The kit replaces the use of immobilized Protein A or Protein G with a method for direct covalent attachment of antibodies to the beaded agarose resin, representing a significant advance in IP technology that allows the use any species or subclass of purified antibody.

The Pierce® Direct IP Kit procedure requires only 2-10 micrograms of purified antibody, but is easily scalable. The short coupling method (1-2 hours) covalently attaches antibody to the resin. This irreversible attachment results in minimal contamination of the purified protein and allows the resin to be reused several times. The purified protein obtained using the kit is compatible with mass spectrometry and other downstream applications such as enzymatic assays.

The Pierce Direct IP Kit includes convenient spin columns that eliminate resin loss and provide for efficient separation of solutions. The kit also supplies cell lysis buffer and sufficient reagents to perform at least 50 antibody immobilizations and IP experiments using 10 microliters of immobilized antibody support.

The Pierce Direct IP Kit, along with the Pierce Classic IP and Pierce Crosslink IP Kits, is a new family of products featuring improved immunoprecipitation methods.
