Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced it is featuring its latest bioprocessing technologies at the International Pharmaceutical Expo (INTERPHEX) at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, March 21-23, booth 3544. The company will feature complete workflows, including systems, consumables, software and services, designed to help bioprocessing manufacturers improve productivity and increase supply chain confidence.

“As biosimilars enter the market and competition increases for precision medicine applications, our customers are looking for a new competitive edge,” said Cory Stevenson, president of bioproduction at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our superior products, supported by our open architecture and services expertise, uniquely position Thermo Fisher to help customers accelerate innovation and increase productivity.”

Designed for Process-specific Workflows

From single-use technologies and high-quality media to purification and analytics, Thermo Fisher enables manufacturers to adopt end-to-end workflows fit for specific processes. Among the newest innovations featured at INTERPHEX are the Gibco GlycanTune Total feeds , a feeding supplement engineered to deliver consistent protein quality by dialing-in a specific glycan profile.

New to INTERPHEX is the Applied Biosystems GlycanAssure Glycan Analysis and Quantitation System , which helps save labor, time and analysis cost by combining simplified sample preparation, multi-capillary electrophoresis instrumentation and assay-specific software. The integrated platform is designed for high throughput and high data quality.

Also featured at INTERPHEX is the Thermo Scientific Acclimate Single-use freeze/thaw shipping system , a single-use BioProcess Container (BPC) and shell combination suitable for freezing, thawing and shipping of bio-pharmaceutical fluids, and Thermo Scientific POROS CaptureSelect AAV8 and AAV9 resins , which are designed to increase product yields and purity, reduce cost of goods and enable efficient purification in a single step.

Enhanced to Enable Increased Productivity

From upstream and downstream manufacturing to automation and quality assurance, Thermo Fisher offers solutions working in unison to increase capacity and reduce costs of goods. Among these productivity-enhancing solutions is the Thermo Scientific HyPerforma Single-use Bioreactor (S.U.B.), which has been updated with an enhanced mixing system to offer a 5:1 turn-down ratio. The system includes a patent-pending cross-flow sparging technology, essential for optimized performance at smaller volume levels.

The Thermo Scientific Harvestainer Microcarrier Separation System is a unique single-use solution designed to separate microcarrier beads from supernatant cells with yield recoveries reaching 87 percent, an approximately 22 percent improvement over traditional stainless steel systems.

Thermo Fisher is also previewing a new suite of Thermo Scientific POROS HIC chromatography resins, which offer biomolecule purification at a range of hydrophobicities, delivering superior performance that is independent of flow rate.

Thermo Fisher recently acquired Finesse Solutions, Inc., a leader in the development of scalable control automation systems and software for bioproduction. During INTERPHEX, the company is featuring several complementary Finesse solutions, including the Finesse SmartController , the most commonly used control system for the HyPerforma S.U.B.

Enabling supply chain confidence

For storage and transport of critical drug substances, Thermo Fisher is also showing its Thermo Scientific Nalgene products. All bottles and carboys meet the requirements specified in USP <788>, USP <85> and USP <661> in the case of Certified Clean testing or exceed the requirements for our Certified Platinum Clean products. These ranges enable customers to choose quality storage options based on their specific particulate requirements.

Lastly, Thermo Fisher will showcase solutions and services for improving supply chain visibility, security and performance. For cGMP-compliant facilities and manufacturers with highly distributed warehousing operations, the company offers chemical sourcing capabilities that help ensure compliance, minimize total cost of material ownership and reduce the risk of supply interruption.
