Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that it will feature its Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS50 FT-IR spectrometer during Pittcon 2013. The first research-grade spectrometer with one-touch operation, the Nicolet iS50 instrument offers purpose-built accessories and integrated analytical software capabilities, providing a user-friendly, all-in-one materials analysis platform designed to maximize laboratory productivity. The instrument is designed to serve a range of industries, including analysis of plastics, polymers, rubbers, forensics, paints, food and pharmaceuticals. Thermo Fisher will showcase the new instrument within booth 1835 during Pittcon 2013, being held in Philadelphia from March 17-21, 2013.

“Today’s laboratory scientists require easy-to-use tools that maximize productivity and simplify workflows,” said Simon Nunn, global marketing director for Molecular Spectroscopy at Thermo Fisher. “The Nicolet iS50 spectrometer is a powerful materials analysis workstation that allows users to extract information with minimal input, especially when coupled with its optional modules. This may open up entirely new research possibilities for labs of all types worldwide.”

The Nicolet iS50 spectrometer is highly flexible; it can be upgraded from its base configuration to a fully automated, multi-spectral range system that can acquire spectra from the far-infrared to visible. An optional diamond ATR module can be integrated to the top of the iS50’s case, allowing for easy access to the sample and module-insert compartments without increasing the instrument’s footprint. Modules for FT-Raman, GC-IR, TGA-IR, NIR and more are also available.

When equipped with the iS50 ABX beam splitter exchanger, shifting from mid-IR to near-IR or far-IR is done with one touch, automating some of the otherwise manual tasks of experimental setup in 30 seconds. The push-button use and easy configurability offer productivity, consistency and confident operation regardless of user skill level. One spectrometer can now sequentially perform far-IR and mid-IR ATR, FT-Raman, and NIR measurements unattended without the need to exchange modules or side-mounted accessories.
