Thermo Fisher Scientific Solve another Common Sealing Problem with New Thermo Scientific ABgene SmartCap Mats

1 Oct 2007

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has launched Thermo Scientific ABgene® SmartCap™ Mats to provide scientists with a fast and effective capping option for cluster tubes.

As more and more scientists move to high-density sample storage, fast, secure capping has become an important requirement. The ability to seal 96 cluster tubes manually, at one time, with SmartCap Mats brings time savings whilst providing a strong seal. SmartCap Mats are easily applied by exerting a small amount of pressure onto the backing mat that the caps are supplied on.

SmartCap Mats have a wide functioning temperature range and are the only non-pierced septum plug seals currently available in the Life Science arena that can be stored down to vapour phase liquid nitrogen.

A further benefit of SmartCap Mats is a reduced pierce force requirement. One third of the pierce force is required for the SmartCap Mat Septum Plugs compared to other products on the market. This gives users the flexibility of single sample access when using robotic needles.

Additionally, SmartCap Mats offer reduced vapour transmissions, ensuring minimal sample loss or excess moisture take-up. Chemical resistance is still at its highest with resistance to harsh chemicals including DMSO.

“SmartCap Mats bring multiple benefits to laboratories in sealing of cluster tubes”, commented Melanie Yanek, product manager, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “Our innovative new product saves time, is easy to apply and, most importantly, provides a strong seal with reduced pierce force.”
