Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that it will host an informative seminar on the increasingly popular Raman spectroscopic technique.

Aimed at scientists looking to expand their analysis capabilities in either routine or research laboratories, the free seminar will take place on 23rd April 2009 at Thermo Fisher’s Hemel Hempstead facility and will be hosted by representatives from Thermo Fisher. Space is limited so preregistration is recommended to guarantee a place. Please follow the company article webpage link on the right hand side of the screen to register for this event. Seminar attendance is free on a first-come-first-served basis.

Raman spectroscopy is one of the principal methods of non-destructive chemical analysis at macro- and microscopic levels. It requires minimal sample preparation and is particularly useful in the analysis of molecular structure and geometries. Recent advances in software and instrumentation have transformed Raman from a technique requiring considerable expertise to one of the easiest techniques to use.

Entitled “Introducing Raman Spectroscopy,” this interactive seminar will initially explain the theoretical basis of Raman spectroscopy and will then set out to describe how the technique can provide solutions for routine and research spectroscopic applications. Raman spectroscopy is a versatile technique with applications in several areas including pharmaceutical, semiconductor, forensics, gems and minerals, polymers and protective coatings.

Event highlights include an opportunity to see Raman systems in operation and the opportunity to ask questions about specific applications and choosing the right technology for a laboratory. The concept of using different experimental configurations to maximize the quality of data will be covered, together with other complementary spectroscopic techniques. Raman sample handling techniques and methods will be described and novel data analysis tools will be explained.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is proud to offer the finest and most complete line of spectroscopic instrumentation available—backed by superb technical service driven by dedication to customer satisfaction. Molecular spectroscopy instrumentation from Thermo Fisher Scientific delivers elegant and easy to use solutions for raw material ID, tablet analysis, reaction monitoring, polymorph characterization, QBD manufacturing, root cause analysis, out of spec investigations and many more critical pharmaceutical and analytical applications.
