Thermo Introduces Unique NIR Analyzers for Improved Usability and Performance In Process Control Applications

21 Mar 2006

Thermo Electron Corporation announces the extension of its award-winning Antaris™ near-infrared (NIR) analyzers.

The new Antaris II offers a common platform of method, procedure, and data transferability of analytical quality control methods along product development and scale-up processes. Thermo’s Antaris MX and EX FT-NIR process analyzers are specifically designed for extending the Antaris offering into process control applications. These new Antaris solutions address the analytical needs of process engineers and plant managers working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, chemical, and pulp and paper industries.

Thermo’s new Antaris analyzers benefit from a common platform design and are specifically suited for method development, raw materials analysis, batch reaction monitoring, on- and off-line moisture analysis, real-time blend uniformity analysis, and tablet analysis. Additionally, they are ready for implementation as Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in the pharmaceutical industry. These new solutions are all available with a choice of software packages including the latest version of RESULT™ software featuring revolutionary corrections for transferring data across sampling techniques and fiber optics; the OMNIC™ software that complements the automation power of the RESULT software with cutting edge spectroscopic analysis tools for method developers and; The Unscrambler® software from CAMO for advanced chemometric modeling and method development.

The newly designed Antaris II is a reliable analyzer that solves a broad range of industrial manufacturing quality problems by providing timely measurements in the laboratory, at production point-of-use, or in real-time processes. This novel instrument is capable of performing true simultaneous reflection and transmission analysis of tablets via a patent-pending detection system. LIMS, barcode and RFID compatibility allow integration with inventory management systems and minimize the risk of operator data error or paper handling inefficiencies. High-speed USB communications and an integrated panel PC computing option are also amongst the system’s unique features.

The Antaris MX and EX are the first high performance FT-NIR analyzers to be offered in complete, integrated process packages ready for application. The MX is optimized for raw material and mobile trigger probe operation requiring only minimal training and minimizing possibility for error. Designed for unmanned process control, the EX is optimized for online analytics-based control of processes such as drying, batch reaction control and fermentation. The Antaris EX is the only FT-NIR process analyzer to come complete with specialty fiber optic probes, integrated analog and digital I/O, hazardous environment readiness and certification, and method transfer from lab development. True patent-pending simultaneous multi-point measurements without mechanical multiplexing, internal referencing, and internal qualification testing completely eliminate some of the key challenges previously associated with online near infrared spectroscopy.
