The latest news from infectious disease industry specialists

In this round-up of the latest news from the infectious disease industry, find out more about a new tests for HIV and Sepsis, a partnership to develop multiplex infectious disease tests, and the availability of global next generation sequencing data on Ebola to scientists and researchers.

1. Thermo Fisher Scientific Partners with the CDC to Accelerate Global Microbial Identification

Through a successful partnership with the Special Bacteriology Reference Laboratory at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Thermo Fisher Scientific has developed an advanced software solution that enables global public health laboratories to directly access the CDC’s MicrobeNet online virtual reference lab database.

2. QIAGEN Expands Qiasymphony Test Menu in Partnership with Seegene

QIAGEN announces a collaboration in which Seegene Inc. will develop a menu of multiplex assay panels for its modular QIAsymphony RGQ MDx automation platform. The first project is to develop comprehensive panels to profile infectious diseases.

3. FDA Approves Siemens HIV Combo Assay

The FDA approves the Siemens ADVIA Centaur HIV Ag/Ab Combo (cHIV) assay. The ADVIA Centaur HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay is designed to simultaneously detect the presence of the HIV viral protein (p24 antigen) and the antibodies produced in response to the HIV (HIV-1 or HIV-2) viral infection.

4. Optimized Fluorescence for Rapid Sepsis Species Identification Assays

Alpha Laboratories announces the exclusive availability of QuickFISH™, a rapid, molecular diagnostic platform, developed by AdvanDx. It provides 20 minute species identification of bacteria, directly from positive blood cultures, enabling clinicians to prescribe the correct antimicrobial therapy for patients with bloodstream infections much earlier.

5. Beckman Coulter Diagnostics Showcases the New DxN VERIS Molecular Diagnostics System at the 2015 EuroMedLab

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics showcased its revolutionary DxN VERIS Molecular Diagnostics System at the IFCC-EFLM EuroMedLab in Paris, France. The DxN VERIS combines sample prep, nucleic acid extraction, reaction setup, real-time PCR amplification, detection and results interpretation in one instrument, streamlining workflow for improved productivity.

6. Scientists Release Ebola Sequencing Data to Global Research Community Online

A team of scientists that is part of an international, multi-organizational effort to curb further spread of deadly Ebola in Sierra Leone has released their first dataset of the virus’ genetic structure online. The genetic analysis is now available for the global scientific community to monitor the pathogen’s evolution in real-time and conduct research that can lead to more effective strategies against further outbreaks.

7. Biocartis and Fast-track Diagnostics Sign Strategic Collaboration in Infectious Diseases

Biocartis, an innovative molecular diagnostics company and Fast-track diagnostics, a leading provider of multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test kits for infectious disease, announce that they have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop a range of multiplex infectious disease tests to run on the Biocartis Idylla™ system.
