Professor Patrick Gunning discusses his research into developing small molecule inhibitors for targeting and treating cancer

An interview with Professor Patrick Gunning, University of Toronto Mississauga, Canada, was your chosen winner for Best Drug Discovery Video Interview. Watch the video to learn how BioTek’s Cytation™ Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader has helped the Gunning Group in cancer drug discovery research by enabling the identification of many promising small molecules in pre-clinical trials.

Gunning said: "I am very excited to have our STAT research and my team be part of the SelectScience video that won the Drug Discovery Video of the Year."

Best Drug Discovery & Development Article of the Year

This year's award for Best Drug Discovery & Development Article went to MilliporeSigma and Dr. Raffaella Spina (inset)

An enormous salute to all of this year’s nominees each of whom have made incredible contributions to the scientific community.

Dr. Raffaella Spina  Case Western Reserve University

The Scientists' Choice Award for Best Drug Discovery & Development Article went to 'Researchers Deplete Cancer Stem Cells to Fight Recurring Brain Tumors' which featured a fascinating interview with Dr. Raffaella Spina, of Case Western Reserve University. In the interview, Spina explains cancer recurrence in glioblastomas and how she is using the MilliporeSigma Guava 5HT flow cytometer to establish a high-throughput screening platform to identify small molecules capable of inducing astroglial differentiation of GSCs, based on GFP expression driven by the promoter of human GFAP.

Spina told us: "I am pleased and honored to accept this award for the Drug Discovery & Development Article of the Year. A very special thanks to SelectScience for selecting me and giving me the opportunity to discuss and share my work, and an enormous salute to all of this year’s nominees each of whom have made incredible contributions to the scientific community."
