Wyatt Technology Corporation, the world leader in absolute macromolecular characterization instrumentation and software, will be demonstrating the versatility of light scattering techniques as essential tools for characterizing biotherapeutics, including protein formulations for stability and aggregation, at PEPTALK 2014, California, January 13 - 17. Wyatt Technology’s light scattering instrumentation is designed to support scientists who require a solution as part of their R&D process for predicting, characterizing and ultimately overcoming protein aggregation.

The characterization of therapeutic protein formulations is essential for the development of novel biopharmaceuticals. Scientists engaged in the development, production, analytical characterization and approval of biotherapeutics require a good working knowledge of protein stability and protein aggregation. Light scattering and related instrumentation constitute a powerful suite of tools that work in tandem to characterize absolute molar mass, size, charge and interaction of simple and conjugated proteins in solution, their propensity to aggregate and final aggregation states.

Geofrey Wyatt, President of Wyatt Technology, comments, “At Wyatt, we have a unique approach to developing essential biophysical techniques that help address many of the key analytical challenges in biotherapeutic R&D, from early candidate selection through scale-up, formulation, characterization and comparability studies. Our capabilities underpinning these techniques have helped to create a comprehensive suite of biophysical characterization tools. We understand the challenges of pharmaceutical R&D and use our scientific expertise to design light scattering tools to help answer key questions in our customers’ R&D projects.”

Wyatt Technology will be presenting a short course, two posters and a seminar at PEPTALK 2014 covering a range of topics including:
• Protein Aggregation: Mechanism and Characterization (short course - Tuesday, Jan 14, 5pm – 8pm)
• High-throughput analysis of protein formulations by DLS: thermal stability, colloidal stability and a thermal anomaly in the colloidal stability parameter D1 (poster)
• Quantifying the Effect of Self-Interactions on Solution Viscosity at High Protein Concentrations (poster)
• The Light Scattering Toolbox for Predicting and Characterizing Aggregation (seminar)

PepTalk: The Protein Science Week continues to draw leaders of biotherapeutics from industry and academia pioneering the evolution of biologics. The international delegation is comprised of over 1,200 participants from 20+ countries.
