ZEISS Axio Zoom.V16 receives 2013 Red Dot Award for Innovative Product Design

1 Jul 2013

At the awards ceremony on 1 July 2013, the ZEISS Microscopy business group received the renowned red dot award: product design for the Axio Zoom.V16 zoom microscope. In 19 categories, the jury selected the product with the most successful product concept from the total 4,662 entries. Following the ceremony, the product will be on display in a special four-week exhibition at the red dot design museum at the Aalto Theater in Essen.

Axio Zoom.V16 combines the typical benefits of stereo microscopes, such as zoom optics and long working distances, with the higher resolutions of traditional light microscopes. "With fluorescence 10 times brighter and resolution 2.5 times higher, this microscope also enables 3D imaging methods on entire models for the first time," states Product Manager Thomas Serfling. The product design is the work of Henssler and Schultheiss Fullservice Productdesign GmbH.

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot, emphasized that high design expertise and economic success go hand in hand: "The winners of the 2013 red dot award: product design are the protagonists of a highly developed design culture and economy. It is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish well-designed products from each other. Special features are often only visible when you look at the details. However, the products that withstand the critical eyes of the international red dot jury will not sink into oblivion, but excel in the global arena."
