It detects as little as 50µg of protein on surfaces and in solution
This swab is reported by 3M as a simple, quick, and reliable method for testing the presence of protein after surface cleaning. Consequently, it should be used on dirty/very dirty food and beverage environments where cleaning may be a challenging activity. In fact, it is able to detect protein up to 50 µg of protein on surfaces. I have correlated these results with a lab-based Biuret (Piotrowski's) test. Correlations have been good or excellent, in my opinion. Time for results (4-10 minutes are good, in my opinion (10 minutes is reported to be the maximum time). Its usefulness is clearly linked with biofilms and related presence on surfaces. It is interesting to note that the test does not require instrumentation; training is very minimal, and the test can be used by normal workers. With reference to ease of use, aftersales care, and economic value, I can confirm this system is really valuable and reliable.
