Autolab 204 is a delight for electrochemists. This device is small in size but it creates wonders during experiments. This instrument helped us to detect even the presence of a minute electro-active substance with great resolution in the range of nanoAmpere current. The same machine also helped us to perform bulk electrolysis experiment as it also supports detection of 400 milliAmpere current. This versatile equipment is compatible for multiple spectro-electrochemical experiments. Hence, this little bundle of joy allows us to unleash the full potential of our designed catalysts while assisting us to unravel the mysterious world of molecular electrocatalysis.

The AutoLab PGSTAT204 potentiostat is a very reliable asset in our lab. The measurements are precise and reproducible and we did not have any problem with it so far. However, the software (NOVA 2.0) is somehow counter intuitive for some applications. It requires some time of adatation and learning for those coming from other softwares and is not as straightforward as desirable. When it comes to price, is in the range of prices that can be expected for this kind of instruments.

Protein-film voltammetry (PFV) and spectroelectrochemistry
My lab purchased the Autolab M204 in 2020. The electrochemistry station was set up by the engineer and the performance was great. We purchased the Metrohm product because of its great reliability and repeatability, which I don't need to repeat here. What impressed me most is that the engineers are so professional and helpful! We ran into errors using a homemade spectroelectrochemical cell last month and could not find a way to solve them. After we contacted the engineer, he offered to visit us and help, which we did not expect. It turned out the engineer gave us a lot of help regarding our problems, which could not be solved by online communication. So we greatly appreciate the engineer and Metrohm for assuring us reliable service and quality.

The PGSTAT204 combines the small footprint with a modular design. The instrument includes a base potentiostat/galvanostat with a compliance voltage of 20 V and a maximum current of 400 mA or 10 A in combination with the BOOSTER10A. The potentiostat can be expanded at any time with one additional module, for example the FRA32M electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) module.
The PGSTAT204 is an affordable instrument which can be located anywhere in the lab. Analog and digital inputs/outputs are available to control Autolab accessories and external devices are available. The PGSTAT204 includes a built-in analog integrator. In combination with the powerful NOVA software it can be used for most of the standard electrochemical techniques.
