General molecular biology work
In the last 25 years of my work, I have used so many different brands of tips, I have my favorite and hated ones. However, every workplace has their own established supply chain and if you are not the lab manager, you just have to get used to the tips traditionally provided to the lab. One of my least favorable tips, are those giant stacked boxes of 192 tips in each layer. They take so much space on the bench and the lids are loose, so they take extra space when you have to take them off and place somewhere. So the Biotix tips gave an extremely refreshing experience when I received them as a sample. Even comparing them to the typical single 96-tip boxes, I would still recommend them over other brands. Biotix are advertized for their low-retention technology, where pipetted liquids (even high viscosity ones) can be fully dispensed from the tip without leaving residue (and introducing pipetting error). It is absolutely true! I saw these tips in action and I saw the effect using them with my own hands. They fit most of Pipette brands and compete with more expensive brand tips. I also like the boxes: they are thinner, so they use less plastic than other brands, and they are translucent, so they are easier to recycle. But don’t worry, the boxes are not those flimsy film-like boxes you saw from other brands trying to advertize less waste. You may know those frustrating boxes that are so soft that they squash and flip over when you try to get a tip, flipping all the remaining 95 tips all over the bench and floor. Biotix boxes are still sturdy and they have wider foot preventing flipping. The boxes and the tips show that they were well designed and tested. They have re-loads available, so you can re-use the box, but do not have to load each tip painstakingly by hand. I would switch to them any time. Now I just have to convince my purchasing department.

We love using Biotix uTIPs! We have a variety of different types of pipets in the lab ranging from VWR to Rainin (universal fit) to Gilsons, these tips fit them all. With over 800 pipets in my lab used by 50 different scientists, it is difficult to find consumables that please everyone, but the Biotix uTIPs do! Everyone loves that the racks are recyclable, we can reuse and re-autoclave them several times before they start showing wear. the 1000ul fit great and the 200ul refills fit onto the P200 and P20 pipets. We use these as our primary tip type in my lab.

- FlexFit® sealing technology is a set of alternating thick and thin ribs at the proximal end of the tip. This helps to increase flexibility and allow the tip to easily conform to the shape of the pipette barrel.
