Cogent Phenyl Hydride™ HPLC Columns

Cogent Phenyl Hydride HPLC Columns are manufactured with TYPE-C™ silica (silica hydride) and a butyl-phenyl ligand that is attached with a direct silicon bond. This makes these non-end capped columns extremely stable with unique separation capabilities that offers great selectivity for polar and non-polar analytes that have aromatic groups.

The Cogent Phenyl Hydride Columns are the most stable and efficient non-end capped Phenyl Columns on the market. These columns can be used in Reversed Phase, Normal Phase or Aqueous Normal Phase (ANP) HPLC or LCMS.

  • Fast Gradients with Short Post Times are possible
  • Can be used with pH Gradients, for closely related compounds
  • Low Salt Concentration for compound elution when used in ANP Mode
  • Phenyl Ring for added selectivity of small Peptides, Sulfonyl, Azide & other compounds with aromatic rings.

These columns have the advantage of fast equilibration between gradients due to their surface properties that will not adsorb water. The extremely low water amount on the surface eliminates the need for long equilibration times even when using in the ANP mode for polar compounds. Precision runs are easily achieved and run cycle times are shorter than standard phenyl columns. When using them in an ANP method (Partitioning as a major retention mechanism is eliminated) the separation is achieved more by interaction with the bonded phase as well as with the silica hydride’s ANP retention mechanism for polar compounds.

Without end-capping, there is no bonded phase bleed which is an excellent benefit when using them with a mass spectrometer. The strong Si-C bonds of the ligand ensure the long-term stability of this phase since they cannot be hydrolyzed and bleed off the column. Use this column when you want different selectivity compared with ordinary phenyl columns.
