Countstar Mira FL

The MIRA FL has been a fantastic addition to our cancer research laboratory! Prior to this, we had to do all cell assays the old fashion way with a microscope and hemocytometer. The MIRA FL has sped up assays by a factor of at least 30! What a time saver and the accuracy is incredible! It takes three snap shots of the inserted cell sample and analyzes the optical properties of each photo, then finds the cells, circles live cells in green, dead cells in red and groups of cells in white, even circling green or red inside the groups! Amazing! Then it calculates cell density for total cells and for viable cells only (as you wish). It averages the three photos taken and gives a mathematical average/summary of all three photos it took. Tells you total live cells counted, total dead cells counted, cell density, graphs the diameter of all cells on a graph showing how many cells where at very specific diameters in microns. This is super helpful for our research work! Then it can calculate how to make your next flask of cells at a specific concentration level based on an assay of the current flask. We use this all the time, as we want to start each experiment at a specific concentration level. Then it can draw a graph/chart showing the growth pattern of flask X over time. This is just amazing! We have only used the Trypan Blue algorithms so far, and they work flawlessly (much better than our old manual counting!). When we're ready: we'll use its fluorescence ability with AO/PI to show even greater detail in the final assays of experiments. The MIRA FL is very easy to use and fun to operate. It's quiet, super fast, and the special slides you use to insert into it have FIVE different wells. You can assay five different samples from five different flasks all at the same time, or, as we do, we do two assays, save the slide in its original envelope and do two or three more assays later in the day or the next morning. Having FIVE wells to do assays on one slide is a great use of lab resources! I believe the MIRA FL will become THE STANDARD cell counter for every lab!

This is the easiest to use cell counter I have used so far (out of three). I appreciate the fact that unlike the Tecan cell counter, multiple images are taken and averaged. There is no cell clogging (ie the Scepter). The software inside this machine is also amazing- I have not yet tried a lot of the many, many things it can do (calculate transfection efficiency, perform live-dead and growth analyses) but look forward to it soon. This small but potent machine was clearly built with the working scientist in mind. And very reasonably priced! Highly recommend!

Great high throughput cell counter with imaging to confirm the machine's counts. Adjustable to read even tiny cells like murine T-cells by altering the presets. Great customer support as well. Very budget friendly for academic labs.

This cell counter is easy to use and has allowed us to quickly determine cell densities and viabilities. We have yet to use the fluorescence function, but our normal cell counting duties are quickly finished with reproducible results. We were impressed enough with this bench top unit that we also purchased the brightfield model.
