Sometimes I don't need a 250 mL conical, or they're not available. Also the Corning 250 mL conicals don't fit into our Eppendorf centrifuge! The 175 mL option is great for volumes over 50 mL and less than 200 mL. Keeps me from having to use multiple 50 mL conicals to centrifuge larger volumes.
