This is a heater/shaker for two micro-plates. It can maintain temperature from room temperature +5C to 70C and shake from 0 to 1200 rpm. It is very useful for doing kinetic studies, growing crystals, doing cultures, and alike. On the outside it is a cheapy-looking dull box, but it does work and works well. Temperature control was not bang-on (off by 0.2C) but this can be easily corrected by a calibration table if you need more precise control. The temperature fluctuation was minimal due to micro-processor (PID?) control. Shaking mechanism is smooth and quiet. We have had it running at 600 rpm for months at a time and it handled without a problem. The internal space is designed for two standard tissue-culture plates, with nice spring clips. We also fixed two dozen HPLC vials with tape and rubber bands on the platform and it worked. Overall this is a very good unit, and the cost is only a fraction of what you would get from vendors like VWR. Highly recommended.
