Distillation of cyanide, phenols and ammonia
The Wilmad Labglass(Reliance Glassworks) 14 position MidiStill is a real workhorse in the lab. We have had one for 15 years and ordered another 7 years ago. Both are still operating well. The 14 positions let you run 10 samples and 4 QC samples in one batch. It is available with specific glassware for distillation of ammonias, phenols, and cyanide. Fluoride distillation is possible but it is difficult to babysit 14 positions/thermometers. Everything is extremely robust including the glassware. There is enough room to color up the entire amount in the 50ml tubes for better detection limits. The heating is very even and the vacuum insulated glassware allows distillation even in a hood. Wilmad Labglass is the best in response and glass repair though in 20+ years the Midistills have never required any service. Helpful hints: Cyanide requires a vacuum source. Just hook up an aspirator to the exit of the cold fingers water flow and you get free vacuum whenever you are distilling. Use miniature Teflon stir-bars as a boiling chip.

Glassware -Complete sets of midi-cyanide glassware (either 10 or 14 position heating units) are supplied with each complete MIDI-STIL™ system. Tygon® tubing and quick disconnect fittings for coolant and vacuum connections are included. Glassware sets available with either 24/40 or 29/42 condenser joints on both sizes. Economical -Uses 50mL of sample; reduces quantity of start-up material and reagent waste by 90%.
Save Time -The MIDI-STIL™ has digital readout controls for both time and temperature; automatic shut-off when selected reaction time is complete.
Heater Unit -Provides uniform heat to each position. Features digital timer (120 min.) and digital heater control with thermocouple for automatic shut-off. Equipped with indicator lights, solid state relay, 15 amp fuse and high temperature protection switch. 10 position 24"L x 10"W, 14 position 30"L x 10"W; 115V/1000W.
Vacuum Control -PTFE needle valve provides accurate control for each absorber tube position.
Coolant Control -Manifold system with flow meter provides even flow of water to each position; all samples are cooled at the same temperature to achieve accurate test results.
