Works great! Only problem is with new users as they over fill serological pipets and then the filter has to be changed out. That has been made easier then it use to be. Thank goodness for extra filters.

Quality of the Pipet-Aid not what it used to be.
Cell culture media applications
I have used the Drummond Pipet-Aid XP for years and have liked the product. However the last two that we ordered have had problems with the motor. They intermittently will not draw up liquid and have been sent in for repairs (new parts replaced). We have had parts sent so we could replace parts as well. I would at this point no longer recommend this product to others.

Studying the molecular basis of hypertension
I love the Pipet-Aid XP for liquid handling in my laboratory. We study the molecular basis of hypertension in a variety of models from in vitro biochemical assays to cellular biology to in vivo animal studies and the pipet-aid XP has been very reliable in pipetting accurate volumes for all of these applications. We especially like the three set speed options for better flow control when working with adherent cells when force of washing is very important.

Very useful simple instrument with a few small issues that can be overcome.
Transfer of solutions for tissue culture
We only use the pipette aids for volumes above 2mL, so I am not sure about actual accuracy. They are very quick & easy to use, but you must remember to charge between uses. However, sometimes the serological pipette tip loosens itself and leaks your solution and this can be very inefficient. This especially happens with larger volume tips. The batteries also seem to die beyond the help of the charger. The batteries themselves can be replaced instead of purchasing an an entire new appliance, but if that was not the issue, I'd find it a wasted effort.

The PipetAid is one of the most useful and reliable products we have in the lab. This is at least the fourth one I have purchased between my post-doc lab and the lab I run now. I've had other similar products that don't last as long and aren't nearly as easy to use.

Specifically designed to minimize operator fatigue, the new Portable Pipet-Aid XP is smaller and lightweight. It accepts most pipets from 1 to 100 mL. Depressing the top button fills the pipet, depressing the lower button empties it. The flow rate is proportional to the amount each button is depressed.
Speed Control
Each button has three speeds, F Fast, M Medium, S Slow. The medium speed is suitable for most routine techniques. Fast can be used for rapid filling of large pipets or breaking up cell clumps. Slow speed is ideal when using small pipets or when more precise delivery is required. A gravity drain model is available which substitutes a gravity drain (G) function for the fast (F) mode on the dispense button.
Battery
The XP is powered by a nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) 9 volt rechargeable battery. To obtain maximum life from the battery, recharge overnight as a routine. The battery can be replaced by removing the screw marked B on the schematic (found in Pipet-Aid XP support) below and sliding out the cover (078).
Self-Locking Double Membrane Filter
The XP incorporates a Tissue Culture Nosepiece which features a unique filter element. The TC filter will cease to allow air to pass in either direction if it becomes wet, alerting the user to possible contamination of the rubber insert. To remove the filter, slide back the nosepiece lock (074) and twist the nosepiece to release the filter.
