The PowerPlex 21 system is a very easy to use STR system that gives the highest degree of confidence in sample calls. We use the system to check the lineage of cell lines prior to the start of experiments or publications to assure that the lines we are working with are correct and have not mutated saving us the expense of re-running the experiments and possible publication retractions. It gives us complete confidence that our cell lines are correct and intact.

The PowerPlex® 21 System is more tolerant of PCR inhibitors than other STR systems including the PowerPlex® 16 HS System. This allows more interpretable data and less need for re-amplification of samples previously deemed "difficult" due to the presence of inhibitors.
The system allows co-amplification and fluorescent detection of 21 loci (20 STR loci and Amelogenin), including D1S1656, D2S1338, D3S1358, D5S818, D6S1043, D7S820, D8S1179, D12S391, D13S317, D16S539, D18S51, D19S433, D21S11, Amelogenin, CSF1PO, FGA, Penta D, Penta E, TH01, TPOX and vWA.
The PowerPlex® 21 System is compatible with the ABI PRISM® 3100 and 3100-Avant Genetic Analyzers and Applied Biosystems® 3130, 3130xl, 3500 and 3500xL Genetic Analyzers.
