Plate reader for cell based assays & ELISAs
Horrible device. Software is flaky, the machine has issues establishing a stable connection with the attached computer. Typically takes a few hours to get it up & running. MolDev Tech support have not been able to solve the issue and then never followed up on it. Will be replacing this one asap.

Excellent instrument but not reliable
Cell based assays
The instrument is super easy to use having both direct and computer-added control. It has a range of options and they are very straightforward to define and apply. The problem is after sale service is very costly. My instrument started giving problems within the first year of purchase and eventually died within 2 years which is not something expected from such investments. The repair cost is around 10-15k which does not guarantee a solution to the problem. After-sales service is just horrible

Never have to worry about tampered protocols again!
ELISA and end point fluorescence
I never thought I would be one to fall for the "NFC personalization" but now I question where it has been all my scientific life! Not only does it protect my protocols (Bless my lab team members, but there has been more than one occasion where my protocol has been manipulated), but the walk up functionality means I can quite literally "tap" and run my experiment quickly. I use the touch screen to run my simple absorbance reads and then for my more complex reads use Softmax pro on the attached computer for acquisition and analysis. Constantly reproducible results and we receive brilliant response on application queries, annual preventative maintenance with the distributor down here in Australia. Price point was slightly high, but when working with the local product manager we got a very respectable price, which includes installation and training.

Great value for money.
JAK-STAT signaling, dual-luciferase assays, nanoparticles, spectral scans
The ideal reader for assay development. It has high sensitivity and flexibility. Setting up protocols for screening is user friendly and easy. It seems robust (no instrument failures so far) and the plate holder is made of metal so no risks with students. Customer support was very reactive and I got an application note helpful for setting up my experiment in less than one day.

Overpriced and overrated.
Bacterial growth curves
The only reason this is not a 1-star value for money review is because it actually does basic absorbance readings fairly reliably. The hardware is otherwise fragile, error-prone and hard to service.

This instrument is having some great features.
Assay development for nucleic acid synthesis
This instrument is multi functional. Easy to use with lot of scope for assay optimization. Molecular device needs to be more updated with application notes. That might be useful for users.
