Analytes which cannot be detected using UV because of lack of a chromophore
CAD has helped me quantitate analytes with no chromophore in my lab. I have used it for the past 5 years and in 2020 we purchased the newest model. This detector had some issues with connection to Empower software, but we solved all of them and it runs like a charm! It is easy to use, uses simple mobile phases and the new model has the best sensitivity for my application. It is a great detector that comes in handy for analytes with no chromophore when you don't need the complications of mass spectrometry. Thermo has excellent customer and technical service as well!

Analyze UV-inactive (such as PEGylated products) compoounds
Corona CAD seamlessly connects to U3000 or Vanquish (there are different models to attach to different UHPLC systems) UHPLCs. It is a great help for detecting UV-inactive molecules such as Pegylated materials. The responses are fair enough for a method to be validated and to be used for quantitative purposes. This is a relatively easy setup if you already have Thermo UPLC systems in your laboratory and the cost is fairly reasonable. The equipment is not too expensive to maintain either, however, precautions must be taken to avoid salt buildup.

Pharmaceutical QC
The Corona Veo detector is a good choice for the analysis of many compounds without chromophores. It is complementary to UV detectors. It is also less expensive and easier to use than an MS detector.

Analysis of surfactants and other non-chromophoric analytes in cosmetics and personal care formulati
The Corona charged aerosol detector (CAD) is very robust and easy to use detector for non-chromophoric analytes analysis by HPLC. If enough care is taken, in the preparation of mobile phase, samples, gas quality etc, the instrument gives most accurate and reproducible results. The linear dynamic range is about 10 times more than the traditional ELSD. Touch screen user interface on the front display all the critical parameters like gas pressure, current, voltage, run mode, etc. The detector response is independent of the chemical properties of the analytes, therefore allowing the determination of unknown impurities and mass balance with a single standard. Overall its a great universal detector for chromophoric and non-chromophoric analytes analysis.

Analysis of surfactants, large molecules, polymers etc.
The Corona CAD is so far the best complimentary detector available for pharma analytical scientists. It gives the analyst alternative detection capabilities for non-chromophoric compounds. The performance, detection sensitivity and linearity levels are many folds superior compared to the RID and ELSD detectors. Simple and easy to use.

Quantitation
The Corrona Array Detector allows the scientist to quantify immediately using a standard curve. All one needs is to setup a simple curve in Chromelern & inject samples at same injection volume to produce a quantitation.

Analyzing small excipients and impurities of protein formulations
Corona detector is a sensitive detector. I would not say easy to use, but in fact needs to be used very carefully. However, detectors almost everything to ng and pg levels.
