Evaporation of organic solvents or aqueous solvents
It's a consumable vacuum seal. A well-running chemistry lab of 5~10 people with 2~3 rotavapor doing different chemical reactions using organic solvent should regularly change this vacuum gasket, especially when using a lot of hydrophobic solvents including acetone, DCM, hexane, diethyl ether, and etc. You should put a lot of greases when placing a gasket in the rotary otherwise friction may damage gasket earlier than it should be.
