Instrument works great but is not designed for small diameter specimen tubes.

Average Rating 3.3

Application Area:

Specimen Sampling

This model was originally developed to use the larger daimeter specimen tubes (i.e. 10ml tubes). Most hospital setting laboratories use the skinnier (smaller diameter) tubes. The probe is designed to measure from a wider diameter tube. Thus when using the smaller diameter tubes, the probe will short sample if the tube is not almost completely full. Any specimen with a volume more than about half an inch from a full draw will short sample every single time. When the analyzer pushes on the tube to stabilize it for sampling, it pushes too far causing the tube to angle and then the probe cannot go into the tube very far. The larger diameter tubes fit the specimen racks perfectly and do not "push back" during specimen stabilization. Non-full small diameter tubes must be poured off into short sample cups or larger diameter false bottom tubes. The company has zero plans to fix this issue after multiple service calls and talks with our technical specialist. They need to create some type of adapter for the specimen racks to accommodate the smaller diameter specimen tubes, but that is not happening. If you use the skinnier tubes, beware of this issue as it creates longer processing times and a significant increase in the probability for human error due to miss-labeling of pour off tubes.
