preparation for microbiological sampling of beverage containers

My organization has used Weber Scientific for several years for laboratory supplies. The Weber DB dilution bottles of sterile buffered water has been a time-saver in microbiological preparation of beverage containers. The product is available in 99 or 90 mL's of either Butterfield's solution for food and dairy testing or Phosphate solution for water and wastewater testing. There is also a 9 mL size of Butterfield's. The buffered solutions are indexed to APHA, EPA, FDA, AOAC, and/or USP methods. The 32 mm wide dilution bottles are made of clear transparent PET and the attached, tamper-evident, hinge cap is of PE for full recyclability and sustainability. Each bottle is also imprinted with the lot code and expiration date with color-coded ink for differentiation. The ink easily withstands 70% alcohol. There are 72 bottles in a case with the information and expiry on the outside of each case as well as a scanable UPC code. A COA is available for each lot code from Weber's webpage. After filling the bottles are gamma irradiated to 10^(-6) to guarantee sterility with a two- year expiration date. I have never had a Weber DB bottle give a positive reading on a control sample in over 6 years of regular use. The cost is surprisingly cost-effective compared to in-lab EDI units and saves me 10 - 40 minutes of time and labor each day depending on the number of samples tested. It is also ergonomically friendlier to the hands when compared to using either a syringe or table-top dispenser with a fitted filter. Microbial cross-contamination is thereby minimized. I confidently recommend this product for laboratory use.

NEW! Pre-filled 9mL Butterfield’s Buffer Dilution Bottles with Flip Top are now available!
Featuring an attached locking hinged-lid that stays open for easy use! Every bottle is pre-filled to 9 mL with an overall capacity of 13 mL and are available in Butterfield’s Buffer.
The Original Weber DB™ Sterilized Pre-filled Dilution Bottles featuring a tamper evident sterility strip that is integrated as part of the cap. It is much easier to open and use. Never hassle with shrink bands again! Every bottle is pre-filled to either 99 or 90 mL ±2 mL, buffered to pH 7.2 ±0.2, has an overall capacity of 150 mL, and is recyclable. Two formulations are available:

Butterfield’s Buffer for foods and dairy products (APHA, FDA, AOAC or USP methods). Contains purified water, monobasic potassium phosphate and sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment.
Phosphate Buffer for water and wastewater (APHA or EPA methods). Contains magnesium chloride, monobasic potassium phosphate and sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment.

Huge freight savings and faster delivery throughout the United States
Dilution bottles ship out of our Nevada warehouse for delivery to Western states and out of our Missouri warehouse for selected Southern and Midwestern states. Customers in these areas will realize significant freight savings plus shipments will be received sooner.

Eastern states will continue to receive fast and economical service from our facility in New Jersey.

Natural is the new green.
We’ve switched to a natural polyethylene cap for our Original Weber DB™ Dilution Bottles. This eliminates the need for the dyes we used to use.

Our packaging already was designed to have a 60% smaller footprint and three times less corrugated waste than the competition. And as always our bottle and cap are 100% recyclable. Taken all together we think it is a good move towards our Sustainability Vision.

The bottles are still color-coded! The lettering on the side of each bottle is now color-coded for easy identification.
