Not really easy to use!
Analyse RNA in tissue samples
Already having a FastPrep FP120 in the lab, we bought this device for the dry ice rack mainly. After several tests, we found that this device is not very easy to use, it has the major disadvantage of having to remove the CamLock, the lid and all the tubes of the rack (CoolPrep) to see if grinding is correct. The CoolPrep rack is not practical because the dry ice comes out through the holes when the rack is not filled and sometimes freezes the tubes! The CamLock breaks, in a year two broke.

Proteomics and genomics
Really fast and easy to use, noise level quite low compared to the power of the instrument, does not use much bench space. Moreover the efficiency and reproducibility of the results are outstanding. Once you try it, you start wandering how you could do without it. My only regret is the lid closing system, the striker bolt is very fragile and needs to be replaced quite often. Fortunately, you get two of them as spare parts when you buy the instrument and, should you need more, they are very cheap and the great after-sales service will help you deal with that.

The FastPrep-24™ 5G Instrument uses a unique, optimized motion to disrupt cells through the multidirectional, simultaneous beating of specialized Lysing Matrix beads on the sample material. Samples and buffers are added to Lysing Matrix Tubes containing specialized Lysing Matrix beads, supplied ready-to-use, certified nuclease-free and in a variety of sample type specific compositions.
The sample tubes remain securely sealed during the processing and the single use design eliminates cross-contamination. Program parameters are easily set using the touch screen user interface, or choose from many Recommended Programs stored on the 5G's onboard computer.
With a simple touch of the "run" button, in less than a minute your samples are completely lysed, super fast, every time! The highest power settings available ensure that DNA, RNA and proteins, even from difficult samples, are quickly liberated into the protective buffer, thus preserving their biological function.
