CHROMagar: Single-step, Chromogenic Testing Media for Colorful Microbial Detection
Since 1935, BD BBL prepared media products have been trusted by microbiology laboratory professionals due to a high level of quality and performance. BD BBL™ prepared plated media enable the isolation of microorganisms from samples or specimens. Ready for immediate use, routinely available in several types of Petri-style dishes, containing a variety of media.
BD BBL™ CHROMagar™ Staph aureus is a selective medium for the isolation, enumeration, and identification of Staphylococcus aureus from clinical and food sources. The growth of mauve-colored colonies at 24 hours is considered positive for S. aureus for clinical specimens requiring no further confirmatory testing. CHROMagar Staph aureus has been validated by the AOAC™ Research Institute under the Performance Testing Methods for…
BD BBL™ CHROMagar™ MRSA II is designed for the qualitative, direct detection of nasal colonization by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
BD has combined two products to formulate the BD BBL™ CHROMagar™ MRSAII/CHROMagar™ SA Bi-plate. This product is used for the qualitative direct detection of nasal colonization by methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and as a selective medium for the isolation, enumeration, and identification of S. aureus.
BD has combined two products to formulate the BD BBL™ CHROMagar™ Orientation / TSA II I Plate™ for urine cultures. As today’s laboratories are challenged to do more with less, this format standardizes urine culture processing to a single catalog number. The I Plate allows for the visual identification of common urinary pathogens helping to improve turnaround time for positives.
BD BBL™ CHROMagar™ Candida medium is a selective and differential medium for presumptively identifying members of the genus Candida from a primary isolation plate. Due to the differences in morphology and colors of the yeast colonies, this medium is particularly useful in the detection of mixed yeast cultures in specimens. Colonies of C. albicans appear light to medium green, C. tropicalis colonies appear light blue to metall…
The BD Difco™ and BD BBL™ brands have been providing high quality dehydrated culture media (DCM) for use in quality control testing in a variety of applications within the pharmaceutical/biotech, food, dairy, beverage and personal care industries, as well as in academic institutions. BD offers more than 400 DCM formulations and packaging sizes to meet a variety of testing and manufacturing requirements.
BD BBL™ prepared tubed media offer a variety of media types and fill volumes to fit your needs. Tubes are borosilicate glass with black screw caps securely fitted to prevent loss of moisture. A special resilient rubber liner is affixed inside each cap with a unique adhesive that resists displacement even during autoclaving. Larger tubes permit easy inoculation or streaking of media. Prepared slanted media are supplied in tube…
A selective and differential medium for the isolation and presumptive identification of Salmonella species from stool with a highly specific chromogenic reaction.
For detection of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE)
BBL CHROMagar ESBL biplate is a chromogenic selective screening medium for the detection of Enterobacteriaceae-producing, extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs):
Technical Advantage: Effective against Gram-positive and -negative Bacteria, and mycoplasma Gentamicin works as an antimicrobial agent by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of certain bacteria. It is formulated to contain 50 mg/ml gentamicin in deionized water and is recommended for use in cell culture applications at 1 ml/L. This product is effective against mycoplasma, Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and is st…
IPTG (Isopropyl-beta-D-thiogalactoside) is an inducer of the lac operon and is frequently used in conjunction with X-GAL to determine the lac phenotype of recombinant plasmids or phage. IPTG is also used to induce the expression of cloned genes that are under control of the lac operon.
X-GAL (5-Bromo-4-Chloro-3 Indolyl-Beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside) is a chromogenic substrate for Beta-galactosidase that turns blue upon hydrolysis and is regularly used for the blue/white color selection assay. Bacteria with a lac+ phenotype grow as blue colonies on plates containing X-GAL.
