This Oxford Optronix white paper discusses different methods of colony counting for cancer research applications, including the manual colony formation assay techniques and automated cell counting. The article proposes use of GelCount™, an easy-to-use PC software operated colony counter that automates the detection, counting and analysis of mammalian cell colonies in Petri dishes, flasks and multi-well plates. GelCount™ offers objective and consistent counting, is capable of processing high volumes of samples and exports data and images directly to the computer.
