Agilent EI GC/MS instrument helium to hydrogen carrier gas conversion

18 Oct 2022

Historically, helium, an inert gas, is the preferred carrier gas for GC/MS. Recurring difficulties with the availability and price of helium have resulted in users considering changing to alternative carrier gases. For EI (Electron Impact) GC/MS, the only practical alternative is hydrogen. The purpose of this document is to help users of Agilent EI GC/MS systems determine if hydrogen can be used as a carrier gas for their analyses and what considerations and procedures are necessary to make the transition successful.
