Application of solid-phase extraction in EPA method 8270E: A comprehensive protocol for SVOC analysis
25 Apr 2025This application note outlines the use of solid-phase extraction (SPE) in the implementation of EPA Method 8270E for the analysis of semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in water and aqueous samples. It presents an optimized analytical workflow combining UCT’s proprietary SPE materials with GC/MS instrumentation using hydrogen as the carrier gas.
Performance summary
The method was evaluated in fortified water samples and demonstrated recovery values and relative standard deviations (RSDs) within the performance criteria set by EPA Method 8270E and Method 8000D. Most compounds showed acceptable accuracy and reproducibility at low concentration levels, with quantitative results for compounds on the EPA Priority Pollutant List, RCRA Appendix IX, and Superfund target lists.
