Coupling MALS and SAXS for time-resolved studies of biopolymeric filamentous networks assembly: fibrin formation

13 Jul 2017

This application note describes how a stopped flow MALS-SAXS set up was used to study formation of fibrin networks following enzymatic activation of fibrinogen molecules. MALS measurements elucidated the early elongation and branching of fibrils and, coupled to SAXS data through DAWN’s flow cell configuration, could be used to stablish lateral growth profiles of fibrils as they thicken and branch. This article demonstrates the capability of MAL-SAXS to model complex systems such as these.
