Critical Factors in Selecting an Internal Standard for Accurate Determination of Blood Alcohols in Post Mortem Samples

25 Feb 2013

Though use of n-Propanol as an internal standard for GC blood alcohol analysis is common, it can be difficult to resolve when analyzing post mortem samples. Further, n-Propanol can also be formed in the body’s natural decay process. This application note demonstrates how the Zebron™ ZB-BAC1 & ZB-BAC2 columns from Phenomenex were able to fully resolve both t-Butanol and 2-Butanol from other target analytes, while maintaining rapid analysis times of less than 2 minutes.
