Detection of Malaria by Scattergram

Detection of Malaria by Scattergram

2 May 2016

This application note demonstrates a method for the detection of malaria using Sysmex’s fluorescence-based technology. Malaria is caused by five species of the parasite belonging to the genus Plasmodium. Four of these – P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae and P. ovale – are human malaria species, which are spread from one person to another by female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles. Two major types of malaria pathogens, P. falciparum and P. vivax, are the most frequently occurring and have very characteristic differences, not only in the course of the disease but also in the blood smear and results of the hematology analyzer.
