Determination of Explosives in Drinking Water by SPE for UCMR2 and EPA Method 529 Using the AtlanticTM DVB Disk

27 Aug 2015

The second Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Regulation (UCMR2) program was developed to monitor US drinking water sources for currently unregulated compounds. EPA Method 529 is categorized under List 1, Assessment Monitoring in the UCMR2 program, and focuses on three explosives: 1,3-dinitrobenzene; 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT); and hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX). Northern Lake Services implemented Automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) for Method 529 under the UCMR2 program using Horizon Technology instrumentation including the SPE-DEX® 4790 Automated Extraction System, the Envision® Platform Controller, the DryVap® Concentrator System, and the ReclaimerTM Solvent Recovery System. The final analysis was then completed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
