Determination of Ractopamine and Clenbuterol in Beef Samples

18 May 2015

Ractopamine and clenbuterol are β2-agonist drugs added to animal feed in order to promote rapid growth of lean muscle in swine, cattle, and turkey feed that have been shown to have negative effects on human health. This application note describes an automated method, using the Gilson GX-274 ASPEC system, for the reproducible iso-lation of clenbuterol and ractopamine, two common controversial cattle feed additives, from muscle samples.
