Determination of Veterinary Drug Residues in Fish Using Automated Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) Followed by HPLC

12 Apr 2016

Nearly half of worldwide seafood production comes from farm-raised seafood. To ensure the health of the fish and shellfish and prevent infection of consumers, farmers use antibiotics and other anti-microbials. To prevent a negative effect on the consumers these products are carefully regulated, this has led to reports showing the presence of prohibited antibiotics in farm-raised fish and shrimp. The method detailed in this application note uses solid phase extraction (SPE) to extract and concentrate illegal residues from fish tissue, these residues are then analyzed using HPLC.
