Determining Saccharidic Tracers in Atmospheric Aerosols

29 Apr 2013

Levoglucosan is a combustion product of cellulose and hemicellulose and, as such, widely used as a tracer for biomass burning sources in atmospheric aerosols. This poster describes the analysis of glass fiber filters containing winter and summer aerosol fractions for levoglucosan, mannosan, galactosan, and sugar alcohols. The analytical method used couples ion chromatography (IC) with a highly sensitive pulsed amperometric detector (IC-PAD) providing a simple alternative to GC/MS.
