Development of a Simple and Rapid Sample Preparation Method for the Detection and Quantification of Algal Toxins in Surface Water

27 Oct 2016

Several non-spectroscopic methods are currently used for the detection of algal toxins in water and most published studies utilize solid-phase extraction (SPE) as a sample preparation technique. However, this technique can be time consuming. In this application note, direct solvent evaporation using the Genevac EZ-2 evaporator is evaluated as a means to reduce to improve detection efficiency. It was found that this method improved reproducibility, decreased analysis time and reduced the risk of cross contamination when compared to SPE.
