Development of On-Site Measurement of Calcium in Food Samples by Use of Ion Selective Electrode

26 Jul 2015

Laboratory based measurements of concentrations of calcium in food samples are commonly made using Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Ion Chromatography (IC) and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). On-site measurements cannot be made using such equipment due to due the size and bulk of such instruments, therefore Horiba Scientific’s B-751 LAQUAtwin Compact Calcium Ion Meter is considered a new proposed method for such applications. This application note proposes a new measurement method which dissociates the compound including calcium into the calcium ion adjusting pH of samples before the potentiometric measurement with the compact calcium ion meter (abbreviated as Ca2+-meter).
