Identifying a Diastereomeric Salt for a Challenging Chiral Resolution

Researchers at the Medicines for Malaria Venture were pursuing a promising candidate for the treatment of malaria when they ran into a roadblock. For over a year they attempted to develop a more direct method for isolating a key chiral intermediate. Until this challenge was overcome, the program was stalled and could not progress.
