In situ FT-IR spectroelectrochemistry: Experimental set-up for the investigations of solutes and electrode surfaces

Using the Bruker VERTEX80 FT-IR spectrometer with the A530/x reflection unit, researchers can investigate electrolytes and electrode surfaces under applied potentials. The method enables detailed monitoring of redox reactions, such as the oxidation of ferrocyanide to ferricyanide, using both ATR and external reflection setups. By synchronizing the spectrometer with a potentiostat, the approach delivers reliable, reproducible spectra for analyzing electrochemical mechanisms in real time.
