Inspired by Nature – Creating Innovative New Materials for Biomedicine
20 Feb 2019After a skin injury, our body normally triggers a complex wound healing process to repair the damage. Scientists are investigating the use of tissue engineering to mimic the body’s natural processes and help promote the healing of chronic wounds. In a recent study published in Carbohydrate Polymers, scientists create porous 3D scaffolds made of a naturally-occurring polysaccharide derived from crustacean shells and demonstrate their wound-healing potential.
