Ionic Strength Dependence of the Heating Time in T-Jump Instrument TJ-64

10 Oct 2011

This application note shows that the observed rate of heating (kobs) depends upon the ionic strength of the NATA solution. The magnitude of kobs is determined by electronic filtering where longer time constants yield an improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) but limit the temporal resolution of the reaction of interest. To measure the fastest reaction rates in the TJ-64, capacitor discharge T-jump instrument, it was necessary to use an ionic strength of at least 300 mM.
