Measurement of methylmalonic acid and 3-hydroxypropionic acid in dried blood spot using QSight MD Mass Spectrometer

2 Jul 2020

Methylmalonic acid (MMA) and 3-hydroxypropionic (3OHPA) are two biomarkers used to study propionylcarnitine related disorders. A reliable determination of MMA and 3OHPA is challenging because of the low volume of sample available such as dry blood spots (DBS) which require very sensitive detection technology. LC-MS based method has demonstrated the ability to provide selectivity and sensitivity needed.

In this application note from PerkinElmer, discover how scientists approached this challenge developing a simple sample extraction from DBS coupled with a short chromatographic separation to resolve and quantify MMA and 3OHPA, all using QSight LC/MS/MS.
